QuickBooks News: Printing 1099-MISC forms for 2013 – Who is Affected by Recent Notice from Intuit

I wanted to help clarify some confusion resulting from a notice recently provided to QuickBooks users.  The notice applies to users of QuickBooks 2010 or older (i.e. versions that have been sunset and are no longer supported).  If you are using QuickBooks 2011 or newer, make sure QuickBooks has the latest release and you can print 1099-MISC forms.  You can download the latest release for your version of QuickBooks here.

Here is the notice sent to QuickBooks users:

Urgent Service Notice

The IRS has changed the 1099-MISC form for Tax Season 2013. As a result, if you print 1099s from your current version of QuickBooks, the new forms will not be correctly aligned. To solve this issue, two options are available:

OPTION 1: Complete the 1099-MISC form(s) by hand and submit them to the IRS. The IRS will accept handwritten forms. Please see http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1099gi.pdf, section G for IRS guidelines and details.1

OPTION 2: Upgrade to QuickBooks 2014. Upgrading will save you time by allowing you to print the new 1099 forms directly from QuickBooks with no alignment issues.

I would add an Option 3 – Use a service that allows you to eFile 1099-MISC forms for a small fee.
