ALERT – QuickBooks ProAdvisors – Incorrect Product Codes for 2012

ALERT – QuickBooks ProAdvisors – Incorrect Product Codes for 2012

If you are a QuickBooks ProAdvisor, please read this blog post regarding the product codes for QuickBooks Accountant 2012 and QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions Accountant 12.0 programs.  Please help share this and spread the word to other ProAdvisors too.  There is some initial confusion and incorrect product codes.

ProAdvisors get the Plus version of QuickBooks Accountant 2012, connected services and a subscription to Advanced Inventory with QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions Accountant 12.0 so our product codes are not the same as the regular retail editions.  Intuit is fixing the product codes to include the services and subscriptions for ProAdvisors.  So, you can download and install the programs now, but you cannot register them until they fix it on their end.  I’ll post an update when it is fixed and you can register.  Check back to this blog post later or follow me on Facebook, Linkedin or Twitter for an update.

  • Question:  But I called in and support gave me a validation code and it works fine.
  • Answer:  Yes, but you may have installed the regular version without the additional services, subscriptions and features for ProAdvisor members.

UPDATE: 9/13 at 4:50 CST — As Woody Adams, Intuit employee and Radio Free QuickBooks, host posted in the comments:

We’re aware of issues concerning installation of some of our 2012 products & are working as quickly as possible to fix it. QBA 2012 & Enterprise Accountant v12 are not ready to install. You can download these products & use them in trial mode but you won’t be able to register them. We will instruct you on how to access and register the products shortly. Please note that Intuit does not recommend you implement any workarounds to register either products if you have already downloaded them. If you have already downloaded these products and are using them in trial mode, or have registered them with a license numbers different from what you received that is okay. You will not lose any data but may need to reinstall the product. QuickBooks Mac 2012, however, is ready to download & install.

UPDATE:  9/14 — Email notifications were sent to ProAdvisors with details.  Estimate a fix next week.

QuickBooks ProAdvisors now get QuickBooks 2012 for Mac

  • Question:  Can I install QuickBooks 2012 for Mac on my windows PC?
  • Answer:  No you cannot install it on a windows PC — it requires a Mac OS.
  • Question:  Can I install QuickBooks 2012 for Mac on my iPad?

Thanks for the kind words, Michelle. And I am sorry for this initial hiccup. Here is current status regarding issue:

Intuit does not recommend downloading QBA 2012 or ES Accountant v12 at this time. Instead, we encourage all ProAdvisors to wait to download these two products after we have fixed the issue relating to registration keys.

DO NOT USE THOSE CODES! WE ARE FIXING IT IN THE BACK END. MICHELLE, PLEASE PULL MY POST.

Here are the correct product codes:

The correct product number for Premier 2012 is (REMOVED) is and the correct product number for Enterprise 12.0 is (REMOVED)

Charlie on sleeter blog cited this kb article to teach yoou how to change the PRD code without having to uninstall/reinstall QB. Remember, in the Manage my License menu under Help, you can only change a license #, not a product #. So you have to go into the qbregistration.dat file. Here is KB:
